I've been in a bit of a sock rut lately. I love, love, love knitting socks...so much so that my only finished projects for several months have been socks. While I am not giving up on them altogether, I have decided that I need to have a couple of other types of projects on the needles. I'm thinking about knitting several scarves over the next few months, to be assembled in a basket and taken home with me at Christmas time. I'll let my family and friends pick one if they find one that they like, or not pick one if they are not interested. I think this is a good way to get rid of the inability to
not knit Christmas presents...and the inevitable frustration when they are not appreciated.
The trouble with this plan is that I like to have at least one project on the n
eedles that is mindless knitting. Socks are perfect for this.
But I'm not knitting socks right now...
I decided to make a couple of Multidirectional Scarves. I love this pattern. The self striping yarn and an easy short row technique make this the perfect scarf...
mindless knitting that looks complicated. Isn't this one pretty? Perfect for knitting without thinking, allowing me to concentrate on a wonderful adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's
North & South.

Oh my goodness! I think you did make a wrong turn! I can relate, it's the worst when you are just knitting along, all fat and happy-and then you realize that you have to frog the last twenty minutes of knitting. I definitely have been knitting alot of socks...counting I think I have 1 pair trekking, 1 pair tofutsies, 2 pair handspun, and 2 more pair in yarns whose names elude me. I think your basket of scarves is such a wonderful idea!! Mind if I steal it?
Who is the mystery author of this interesting post about trying NOT to knit socks? I have been trying to guess. I think it is not Amanda. I think it COULD be Michelle but I'm not sure if she is reading or not. It COULD be Heather but is that Victorian era book that is referenced? Maybe since it is about the 1800's it meets Heather's reading criteria even if not written IN the 1800's? I'm very unsure.... --Elizabeth, somewhat perplexed but leaning towards Heather.

Alright, so this isn't knitting related, BUT...I spent the morning sewing a skirt which I found out is a litte too small :( to fit on me....so, who's daughter can fit into a fitted skirt (A-line) waist measurement 25.5"?? And is anyone interested?
I bet one of mine could. Since they already love all of your other clothes, maybe I should measure them?
Josie doesn't do skirts, so I guess Colleen and Rhianna get your generosity this time. Jo did wear some of your jeans to school today, though. :)
Heather, I have been told by a reliable source that Grumperina has a tutorial on hemming jeans on her blog or website...I haven't checked this out, but if Jamisyn keeps handing down clothes it could come in handy.
LOL...I did the same thing on my first attempt at a MultiDirDiag. It is a great pattern!
Sadly, this was not even close to the first time I tried the pattern. I've finished several. Just went a little stupid on this one. :)
